Frances Reed Purtue

A beautiful life came into being on August 21, 1927 in Cheneyville, Louisiana to the parentage of Cleveland and Martha Reed. Frances completed her education in Louisiana and worked at Blackman's Laundry and Baptist Hospital Laundry. She married Audrey Purtue on July 3, 1954 and they moved to Fort Worth, Texas on July 4, 1954 where she worked at the Texas Christain University, Haltom's Jewelry Store and Striplings Department Store. Frances and Audrey were proprietors of Purtue's Bar-B-Que located in Fort Worth, Texas. Frances retired from Striplings in August of 1982 to move back to Alexandria, Louisiana to care for her ailing mother and husband until their deaths. Frances was a member of Edgefield Missionary Baptist Church in Cheneyville, Louisiana for over 50 years. She moved to Chicago, Illinois in the fall of 2008. She was an independent woman up until her death.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband Audrey Purtue; her parents, Cleveland and Martha Reed; her brothers, Cleveland Jr. (Curly), Fred Sr. (Bud), Earnest Sr. (Unc Doe), and sister-in-laws, Ruth and Georgetta Reed.
She leaves to mourn her passing; seven nephews, Earnest Jr., Johnny Ray, Fred Jr., Robert, Don, John Wayne, and Lawrence; eight nieces, Gladys, Bobbie, Inez, Patsy, Brenda, Wanda Jean, Judy and Frances; two sister-in-laws, Ella Mae Reed and Lola Purtue; a special cousin, Emma Reed; and a host of other relatives and friends.
