George Dear Obituary

George Cleveland (Jack) Dear

Jack Dear passed away on March 21, 2014 in Roswell, Georgia at the age of 95 of old age, after a long and active life. He was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, on May 7, 1918 to Webb and Mary Simms Dear.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, brother Joseph W. Dear, sister Mary C. Dear, and his wife Mary Byrd.

Jack is survived by his son George F. Dear and wife Julie of Roswell, Georgia, grandsons Brad Dear of Alpharetta, Georgia, Jeff Dear of Doraville, Georgia and great grandchildren Emma and Harper Dear.

Jack lived in Alexandria for most of his days and attended Bolton High School and Louisiana Tech. Like many young men of his generation, Jack volunteered for military service with the Army Air Corps. In World War II he was trained as a Bombardier and flew on B-24 and B-25 flight crews. The war saw him on Fiji, New Guinea, New Caledonia and other South Pacific islands as the US forces captured territory across the Pacific. After serving for four years, Jack returned home to Central Louisiana in 1945.

He was an avid outdoorsman, fishing and hunting, spending many a day in a duck blind. Jack and Byrd provided a home for many dogs and cats over the years, and enjoyed camping and gardening. He operated his own truck and equipment repair business for much of his life.

Jack will be buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Pineville, Louisiana. The family would like to thank Hearthstone Personal Care, Roswell, Georgia, and Compassionate Care Hospice for their loving care and attention over the past few years.

My sympathies at the lost of your father, but I must say that I did not realize that Byrd had passed away also. I worked with your mom for many years at the Rapides Parish Library and I knew personally what wonderfully kind people they were. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
