Services for George "Rodney" Powell will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Chapel of Hixson Brothers, Pineville with Reverend Richard "Dick" DeBusk and Reverend Ray Ford officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Bentley.
The family requests that visitation be observed Friday at Hixson Brothers, Pineville from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and will continue on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
Rodney passed away December 25, 2012 at the age of 56. He was born February 18, 1956 to George and Pauline Powell.
He is preceded in death by his father, George Dewey Powell.
Rodney is survived by his mother, Pauline Powell, one sister, Anita Rambin (Mike) of Alexandria. His wife of 25 years, Darlene, his four daughters, Brandi Roberts (Kerry), Sara Kelsey (Daryl), Victoria Powell (Fiancee, Justin),Kaitlyn Powell (Shane) all of Pineville and one son, Rodney Dustin of North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Konnor, Mason Joe, Peyton, Isabella, Emma, Mattison, Emilee and Dillan; nieces, Jennifer McVay and Jessica Rambin.
Rodney retired from Holsum Bakery after 25 years of service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. Rodney was a devoted and caring son to his mother, Pauline as she has struggled with illness over the last six years. He especially enjoyed riding his Harley with his wife and friends. Rodney was a graduate of ASH in 1974 where he was active in all sports and a member of the choir, Rodney had a beautiful singing voice. Rodney was dearly loved by many and will truly be missed by family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Spencer Bailey, Ronnie Abbot, Kenny Redman, Tommy Carriker, Keith Bailey and Mickey Billings. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Earl Richerson, Ronald Richerson, Jerry McVay, Mark Anthony, James Shelfo, Thomas Bardwell and Scott Francis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alpine First Baptist Church Children's Ministry, 7215 Shreveport Hwy., Pineville, LA 71360.
