Funeral services for Joan Byrd will be held at 11 a.m., Sunday, June 7, 2015 in Christ Church, 807 N. 9th Street, Oakdale with Reverend Greg Willis officiating. Committal service will follow in Cryer Cemetery under the guidance of White Oaks Funeral Home, Oakdale.

Joan, 84, of Oakdale, entered eternal rest on Thursday, June 4, 2015 in Christus St. Francis Cabrini Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was born March 4, 1931 in Grand Saline, Texas to Frank Edwin an Alice Marie Forrest Hearn. Joan loved people and through this love became a Certified Nurse's Assistant and not only worked in nursing homes, but also as a private sitter. Throughout the neighborhood she welcomed all kids into her home as if they were her own and would usually offer them her famous pancakes or if you were lucky, you'd get a hot rod or a Souped up hot rod (by special orders only). Joan was the rock and backbone of not only her family, but to everyone that met her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Francis Smith.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are: her husband of 68 years, Marshall Byrd of Oakdale; three sons, Frank (Kathi) Byrd and Kenneth (Theresa) Byrd both of Oakdale, and Kevin Byrd of St. Louis, Missouri; four daughters, Gwen (Dennis) Frazier of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Sandra Byrd, Marsha Guinn, and Cheryl (Phillip) Karam all of Oakdale; brother, Leon Hearn of Oakdale; twenty grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Pallbearers to serve will be Chad Byrd, Allen Byrd, Brian Guinn, Phillip Karam, Trenton Karam, and Lil' Frank Byrd. Honorary pallbearers to serve will be Justin Byrd and Michael Doyle.

Visitation will begin Saturday, June 6, 2015 from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m., then on Sunday, June 7, 2015 from 8 a.m. until service time in the church.
