A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church on Saturday, July 27, 2013, with Rev. Dan O'Connor and Rev. Chris Nyak officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4-9 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2013 and again from 9: 30 to 11:30 on Saturday. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
John Julius Finley, 68, of Alexandria passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital.
He is preceded in death by his parents Marvin Eugene Jack Finley and Elizabeth "Libby" Lotterhos and his brother Walter Eugene "Gene" Finley.
John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was an avid Mississippi State and Saints Football Fan. John was a 1964 graduate of Crystal Springs Consolidated High School, where played and lettered in football for three years. He attended Mississippi State College from 1964- 1966 where he played football and lettered both years of attendance. After his college graduation he entered the United States Air Force on September 15, 1966 and was honorably discharged on May 23, 1975. He then joined the United States Army Reserves and the Louisiana National Guard (527th Eng. BN Camp Beaugard) for a total of 21 years of military service. John moved to Alexandria in 1970, where he met his wife Irene "Marie" Dauzart and later married in 1972. He was the Vice President and Loan Officer of First National Bank. John also served as business manager for M& M Dodge and LeGlue Buick. He was a life member of Knights of Columbus #1134 serving as past Grand Knight, District Deputy, and a 4th Degree Knight. He was also a member of the VFW Post #1736, the AmVets Post #7, and the Disabled Vets Chapter 7 serving as past Senior Commander. John was a member, State Board Member, local President of the American Diabetes Association. He served 6 years on the board for Cosmopolitan and was awarded the International Cosmopolitan of the year in 1999 and the Southwest Federation Man of the Year in 1996- 2000, also served as the 7th Southwest Federation Governor. His volunteer work included the VA, CHRISTUS Cabrini Hospital and the Children's Miracle Network. He was an active member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church and past Evangelistic Instructor for the Diocese of Alexandria.
Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 40 years Irene "Marie" Finley; his children Stephen Dale Finley and wife Stacey D.; Sean Patrick Finley and Stephanie Elizabeth Finley; his granddaughters: Emily Ainsworth, Erin L. Finley, and Abbie Elizabeth Finley; his grandson Noah Patrick Finley. Also his best friend and LSU Football traveling buddy Ricky Sooter; his siblings William Thomas "Bill" Finley and Ann Elizabeth Finley Ryan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers honored to serve are Jerry Brumley, John Rabalais, Jamie Wiley, Matthew Dauzat, Tanner Whittington, Tony Johnson, Bo Whittington and Jared Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler and Landon Johnson and Russ Scoman.
