Services for Rita Goudeau Varvarovsky will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2014 in the chapel of Hixson Brothers, Pineville with Father Craig Scott officiating. Burial will be in Czech National Cemetery, Kolin under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Pineville.

The family requests that visitation be observed Saturday at Hixson Brothers, Pineville from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Mrs. Varvarovsky, 92, of Tioga, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2014 in Tioga.

Rita was born in Bordelonville, Louisiana on January 17, 1922. She began her working career at Kress Department Store in downtown Alexandria. During World War II, she met a U.S. Navy sailor, Joseph Varvarovsky, Sr. they were married, and after his discharge from the Navy several years later, they owned and operated Sunrise Grocery on Hwy 107 in Pineville. They were active members of St. Frances and Anne Catholic Church in Kolin, the Czech Hall in Libuse, and the VFW in Alexandria. In later years, she became a parishioner of St. Rita Catholic Church in Alexandria. She was a warm shoulder, a soft lap, and a source of much fun to all of her grandchildren. Her cookie jar was never empty and her refrigerator was always the first place everyone stopped when they walked into her house.

Rita is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Varvarovsky, Sr; father, Eugene Goudeau, Sr; mother, Ella Swinnen; stepfather, Lucien Swinnen and grandmother, Leontine Godwin.

Those left to cherish her memory include brother, Eugene Goudeau, Jr.; daughter, Brenda Varvarovsky Williams and husband Johnny; son, Joseph Varvarovsky, Jr.; grandchildren, Shannon Varvarovsky Brimer, Jake Varvarovsky, Brad Williams and wife Jaime and Tammi Krist Schneider and husband Jim; great-grandchildren, Todd Sydnes, Emily, Anna, and Tyler Williams and Bradley Schneider.

Pallbearers will be Brad Williams, Joe Varvarovsky, Jr, Donald Williams, Marc Smith, Jim Schneider, and Bradley Schneider.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Rita's Church Building Fund, 3822 Bayou Rapides Road, Alexandria, LA 71303.
