Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Duplissey Tate will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 17, 2014 in the Rush Funeral Home Chapel in Glenmora with Reverend Falis Holloway officiating. Burial will follow in Griffin Hill Cemetery, Lone Pine under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Glenmora.
Mrs. Tate passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 14 at Naomi Heights Nursing Home, Alexandria.
Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 16 from 3-8 p.m. at the Rush Chapel in Glenmora and on Monday, Feb. 17 from 9 a.m. until time of the service at 1 p.m.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Alfred Tate, their son Darryl Tate, her brother Jerry Duplissey and her parents Sam C. and Beckie Elliott Duplissey.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Kennith Tate and his wife Brenda of Destrehan and Ted Tate and his wife Margie of McNary; eight grandchildren: Cynthia Tate of Houston, Texas; Stacey Schexnaydre and her husband Charlie of Destrehan; Trevor Tate of Destrehan; Shelley Tate Homberg and her husband Jamie and Jeffrey Tate of Portland, Oregon; Matthew Tate of Glenmora, Andrew Tate and his wife Sarah of Honolulu, Hawaii and Darson Tate of Forest Hill; eight great grandchildren: Sydney, Shelby and Collin Steib of Houston, Texas; Nicholas Tate, Caroline and Ethan Schexnaydre of Houston, Texas; Savannah Homberg of Portland, Oregon and Mattie Tate of Glenmora; her brother Bob Duplissey and his wife Carolyn of Lake Charles and nieces and nephews.
She was a 1940 graduate of Bayou Chicot High School and married her loving husband Fred the same year. They bought their country home near Glenmora in 1943. Her life centered around her family and extended family and she enjoyed hosting big family gatherings. She was known to all as a caring, thoughtful, outspoken and independent woman. She worked as a seamstress at different companies over the years, including working for Oakdale Dress Company until she was over 70 years old.
She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Glenmora and was well-known and well liked in the community.
Pallbearers honored to serve will be her grandsons Trevor, Jeffrey, Matthew, Andrew, Darson Tate and great grandson Nicholas Tate.
The family would like to thank Naomi Heights Nursing Home staff and administration and St. Joseph Hospice for their kindness and caring attention.
