Services for Daisy Lee Ray "Madear" will be at 3 pm on February 23, 2014 at Magnolia Baptist Church with the Rev. Chadwick Godfrey officiating. Viewing will be from 1pm-3pm Sunday. Burial will be on Monday at 12 noon at National Cemetery in Pineville under the direction of Boyce Community Funeral Home.
Mrs. Daisy Lee Ray 92, of Alexandria passed away February 18, 2014 at her residence.
Mrs. Ray was born in Methodist Hill in Pineville on November 17, 1921 to the union of Lucy Jett Thomas and Walter Caldwell. She attended school in Elizabeth. She was married to Mr. Jake Ray and to this union came nine children.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jake Ray; mother Lucy Jett Thomas; father Walter Caldwell; sons Vincent Ray; Charles Thomas; step son Jacob Ray; God child Rose Marie Norris; and daughter in law Emily Gray Ray.
Survivors inlcude daughters Mildred Phillips (Taft), Emma Dubreuil (Jeffery), Ruthie Harris (James) and Shirley Scott (Donald); sons Joe Ray (Debra), Rev. James E. Ray Sr., and Henry Ray; Step daughters, Bertha Bifford, and Harriet Richardson; step sons Bernard P. Ray Sr. (Betty); special daughters Bettye Nash and Gloria Shaw; 47 grandchildren; 86 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
Friends may call 443-5313 home # and the church 443-2954 on Sunday from 2-5 pm.
Daisy "Madear" Ray was an usher of Magnolia Baptist Church for 40+ years. She was the mother of the church. She was also a member of the chapter 13 Eastern Star. She was a great, kind and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed her family and loved everyone. Madear never met a stranger.
The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Mallory Vincent and Avoyelles Hospice Care, and a special thanks to Darnetha Keller and Earlean Lewis for their special care. A very special thanks to the Greater Magnolia Baptist church and also Wesley United Methodist Church in Pineville and also Wesley United Methodist in Booneville.
