Funeral service for Mr. George A. Barron, Sr. will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday,
March 25, 2014 at the Chapel of Hixson Brothers, Jena with Bro. John Barker officiating.
Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery east of Jena.
The family request that visitation be observed Monday, March 24, 2014 at the funeral home from 5 until 9 p.m. and continue Tuesday at 8 a.m. until time for service.
Mr. Barron, 80, of Jena was born January 3, 1934 and passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014 after a brief but valiant battle with cancer in Alexandria.
He was preceded in death by parents, W. T. "Coon" and Alice Wiggins Barron, son, William Thomas Barron, brothers, Reese, Cecil, Jack, Ray, Tom and Jimmy Barron and sisters, Lula Cooper, Allie Redd, Grace Lucky, Josie Lee Weir and Mae Husband.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 58 years, Grace Isonhood Barron of Jena; son, George "Bubba" Barron, Jr. and wife Cherry of Pollock; daughter, Karen Gray and husband Chris of Shreveport; brothers, Charles Barron of Clayton and Travis Barron of Opelousas; sister, Barbara Miller of Doyline; sister-in-law, Margie Barron of Belle Chasse; granddaughters, Lauren and Emily Gray, grandson, Jeffrey Barron of Pollock and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Woody Bradford, Jim Summers, Larry Martin, Jody James, Mark Odham, Monte Atkins and David James.
George was a generous, caring man whose career was spent in the oilfield of Central Louisiana. His greatest passion was helping others, whether with their oil wells, their cows or most any thing else. A good friend to many people, he will be sorely missed by them all. He was a member of the Jena Church of Christ. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital (2nd floor) and Grace Home of Alexandria for their kindness, compassion and the excellent care they gave both George and his family.
