Nathan A. Garlington

Nathan A. Garlington, age 95, of Ball, Louisiana passed away on April 19, 2014 at Woods Haven Nursing Home, Pollock.

Nathan was born September 10, 1918 to William Oliver and Naomi Alice Tison in Grant Parish, Louisiana.

Nathan served in the US Navy during World War II. He worked as a Manager for Petrus Feed Store. He was a member and deacon of New Prospect Baptist Church. After retirement he had a lawn service and mowed grass. He visited people in the hospital and served his church well.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Thelma Dickerson Garlington; seven children, Norman Garlington and wife Sandra, Opal Miller, Alicia Charlton, Threcia Green, Wanda Johnson and husband Greg, Frances Messer and husband Billy and Frank Fiorello and wife Laurie; 20 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Garlington; sisters, Cecile Brunson and Eugenia Montgomery; brother, Leonard Garlington.

Nathan was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Alice; his brother Timothy; his first wife, Lula Bell Honeycutt Garlington; sisters, Ester, Margaret and Mary Beth; son Carroll "Bootie" and granddaughter, Bridget.

The Funeral Service will be at New Prospect Baptist Church on Monday, April 21, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverends Leonard Free, Mike Shamblin and Lloyd Whitman officiating. Burial will be at Frazier Cemetery, Prospect.

The family asks that friends call after 5 - 8 p.m. Sunday at Hixson Brothers in Pineville and Monday after 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of New Prospect Baptist Church.

We want to thank all the staff at Woods Haven Nursing Home for the loving, personal care and love they extended to our dad as well as Dr. Brian Smith.
