Teddy Ray "Ted" Slayter

Funeral services celebrating the life of Teddy Ray "Ted" Slayter will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2014 in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers in Pineville with the Reverends Richard DeBusk and Calvin Cantrell officiating. Burial will be in Frazier Cemetery, Prospect, with military honors by the Barksdale Air Force Base Honor Guard.

Pallbearers honored to serve will be Derek "D J" Slayter, Logan Brown, Steven Honeycutt, Kent Arrington, Bobby Smith and Scott Slayter.

The family asks that friends call from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Mr. Slayter, 82, of Dry Prong, passed from this life Thursday, April 17, 2014 at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center.

Mr. Slayter was a retired Tech Sergeant with the United States Air Force having served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Conflict. He was the recipient of several medals during his military career including the Bronze Star. His family is very proud that he bravely and courageously served his country and protected his family. He was a member and deacon of Hudson Creek Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Red Horse Association. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his father, Tollie Roy Slayter; his mother, Hazel C. Butts Slayter-Walker and his sister, Jewell Slayter Bell.

Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, Joyce Mallone Slayter; son, Terrel Rick Slayter and wife, Denise; daughter, Angela Slayter-Harris; grandchildren, Misty Wilson, Jansen Harris, Erin Slayter, and Derek "D. J." Slayter; and great grandchildren, Heather, Caleb, Zachary, and Jackson.
