Betty Sue Brewton

Betty Sue Brewton, 80, of Natchitoches, La., formerly of Winnfield, La., died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at her home in Natchitoches. Born August 20, 1933, in Minden, she is predeceased by her parents, Arthur M. and Artie E. (Manning) Parker; two brothers, Billy Ray Parker and Edward (Eddie) Parker; and her husband of 53 years, L.L. (Snookie) Brewton, Jr. of Winnfield.

A 1951 graduate of Winnfield Senior High School, Betty Sue was very active in sports. Though small in stature, she excelled in basketball, softball and served as a Tiger majorette. Later in life, she enjoyed bowling, golf, water-skiing, and playing cards with friends.

She loved country music and eagerly anticipated her many trips to Nashville, Tennessee and Branson, Missouri. Betty was a devoted homemaker, loving mother and most notably known for her dedication and commitment to all of her grandchildren. Family gatherings at holidays and other special occasions were her passion for living. Betty Sue was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winnfield arid would talk endlessly of her extended trip to the Holy Land.

Survivors include her two sisters: Frances Bradshaw and Bobbie Nell Sanders of Monroe; her children: one daughter, Evelyn (Susie) Broughton and her husband Donny of Heath, Texas; three sons, Latnie L. (Trey) Brewton, III and his wife Jeanne of Natchitoches, James M. (Mickey) Brewton and his wife Julie of Natchitoches, Randall P. (Randy) Brewton of Winnfield; ten grandchildren: Kris Broughton and his wife Lisa, Latnie Brewton, IV and his wife Danielle, Alana Brewton, Benjamin Brewton and his wife Carrie, Karly Broughton, Lauren Brewton, Catherine Brewton, Page Brewton, Morgan Brewton Vaughan and her husband Patrick, Parker Brewton; two great-grandsons, Brooks Broughton, Jack Brewton and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services are under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, 202 E. Lafayette Street, Winnfield, La., where the family will receive friends from 5:00PM-7:00PM on Sunday, August 10, 2014. The celebration of her life will be conducted at the First Baptist Church, 111 E. Court, Winnfield, with Dr. Calvin Phelps and Rev. John Holland officiating on Monday, August 11, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Winnfield.

Pallbearers include her grandsons, granddaughters, great-grandsons and her nephew Danny Parker. Honorary Pallbearers: Gay Baker, Brenda McCarty, Mae Perry, Margie Thornton, Pete Abington, Clay Abington, Doug Abington, Jim Bob Key, and Bruce Desadier.

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Calvin Phelps, Diane Lacour, Pricilla Dumars and to the Hospice of Natchitoches staff for their support in her final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the First Baptist Church Music Ministry, 111 E. Court St., Winnfield, La. 71483.
