Funeral services celebrating the life of Ruth Jewel Greer Thigpen will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 11, 2014 in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers, Pineville with Dr. C. Stewart Holloway officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Pineville.
The family requests that visitation be observed at Hixson Brothers, Pineville Monday from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
Ruth, 94, of Pineville, passed from this life on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at her residence.
Ruth Jewel Greer Thigpen was born in Oakdale to Bertha Rollins and N.B. Greer. She grew up in small towns around Central Louisiana, and graduated from Trout/Goodpine High School. After graduating from Alexandria Business College, she worked in the credit office of Montgomery Ward and then as assistant auditor of Hotel Bentley. She married Stacy C. Thigpen and the family eventually settled in Bogalusa where he was director of the vocational school. After Stacy's death, Ruth Jewel and children moved to Pineville, where she worked at Louisiana College Library for almost 30 years.
She is preceded in death by husband, Stacy; parents, N.B and Bertha Greer; sister, Ruby Lee Greer and grandson, Bryce Thigpen.
She is survived by her three children, Barry W. Thigpen and wife Linda of Henderson, Nevada, Bruce Greer Thigpen of Savannah, Georgia and Nancy Jo Thigpen of Pineville; grandsons Davin Greer Thigpen of Rye, New York and Luke B. Thigpen of McKinney, Texas; great-grandchildren Reid, Charlie, Annie, and Hudson.
Pallbearers honored to serve will be Lynn Cavanaugh, Rodger Talley, Jan Tullos, Lester Mallette, Jim Williamson, Chico Maldonado and Mike Peevy.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Joe Black, Gene Pharis, Carroll Lowe and Jim Lofton.
