Elizabeth was born on October 8, 1936 in Alexandria, Louisiana, and was the daughter of Louise Pierson Marshall and Lemuel Pierce Marshall. She was descended from an old and distinguished Louisiana family. Elizabeth was the granddaughter of Dr. Clarence Pierson, superintendent of Central Louisiana and South Eastern Louisiana State Mental Hospitals and his wife, Martha Louise (Pattie) Hunter; and on her father's side, Lemuel Pierson Marshall, Sr. and Elizabeth Compton Meeker.
Elizabeth graduated from Newcomb College of Tulane University, Phi Beta Kappa and received a Woodrow Wilson fellowship to study graduate level psychology at Columbia University in New York City. She later studied graduate level psychology at Tulane University. She was later employed at Oschner Foudation Clinic. A serious illness interfered with Miss Marshall's fulfillment of her potential. She was a devoted and steadfast caretaker of her mother.
She is survived by her sister, Dr. Martha Louise Marshall Foster of Lexington, Kentucky, her brother, Clarence Pierson Marshall of New Orleans, three nephews, two nieces, and numerous cousins.
