A mass of Christian Burial for James Edward Jones will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Alexandria with Reverend James Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Pineville, under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria.
Mr. Jones passed away Saturday, April 21 at his home in Alexandria.
Mr. Jones was born August 13, 1921 in Alexandria. He was a graduate of Bolton High School and attended Louisiana Polytechnic Institute. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II, stationed in Guam and Tinian. Upon departure from military service, he returned to Alexandria to join his father and brother in the family business, R. J. Jones and Sons, where he served as Secretary-Treasurer. R. J. Jones and Sons was an active general contractor in Louisiana, building a number of noteworthy structures, including Alexandria City Hall, the Louisiana State Office Building and the Louisiana National Guard Armory. He was active in civic and professional organizations including the Lion's Club and the Association of General Contractors.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Robert J. Jones and Geneva Haley Jones, his brother, Robert Haley Jones, his son-in-law, Kenneth Francis Gourgues and his grandson, Kenneth Francis Gourgues, Jr.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Madeline Barbour Jones; daughters, Barbara Jones Gourgues of Alexandria, Elaine Jones Petrus and her husband, Tim of Fort Worth, Texas, son, Robert James "Bubba" Jones, II of Alexandria, his daughter, Ginger Barbour Hitchings and her husband, Bill of Virginia Beach, Virginia and his son, Steve Barbour and his wife Kathy of Virginia Beach, Virginia. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed Wednesday at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. (Noon) until 1:30 p.m.
