A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Steven Wayne Hood on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Bunkie with Fr. Scott Chemino officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie.
Mr. Hood, age 62, of Bunkie, passed away at his residence on Friday, December 28, 2012. Steve, or "Papa", as he was known to his adoring grandchildren, treasured family and friends above all else.
A lifelong love of the outdoors drew him to a career in forestry and later to his work with Louisiana Outdoor Properties. He was quick with a joke or a helping hand and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leopold and Sadie Hood; his adopted father, Eldridge "Buster" West and his sister, Sue Normand.
He is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Mary Ellen Temple Hood of Bunkie; a daughter, Kimberly Hood and husband, Doug Stewart, of St. Francisville; one son, Paul Hood and wife, Rosa, of Bunkie; three sisters, Louise Johnson and husband, Felix, of Denham Springs, Lois Bryan and husband, Keither, of Port Arthur, Texas and Penny Linton; three brothers, Paul Hood and wife, Joann, of Corpus Christi, Texas, Gordon Hood and wife, Teeny, of Denham Springs and Rick Davidson and nine grandchildren, Max Guillory, Jack Stewart, Sam Stewart, Nate Stewart, Mary Elizabeth Stewart, Anna Grace Hood, Cecelia Katherine Hood, Isabella Theresa Hood, and Payton Edwards.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Tommy Cathy, Jimmy Elkins, Carl Foreman, John Dauzat, Ricky Rabalais, and Ben Painter and honorary pallbearer, Kent Juneau.
Visitation will be at Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 6:30 p.m. and on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 from 10 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.
