A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Nean Thompson will be celebrated at 10a.m. Monday, January 28, 2013 in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, Alexandria, with Rev. Dan O'Connor officiating. Interment will be in Alexandria Memorial Gardens under the direction of John Kramer & Son.
Visitation will be observed from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday and from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Monday at John Kramer & Son. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
Mrs. Thompson 89, of Alexandria passed away Friday, January 25, 2013, at her home in Alexandria.
She was a talented horse rider and performed dressage (horse ballet) in rodeos throughout the south.
She and her husband Jimmie, who preceded her in death, were long time members of the Twin City Twirlers square dance club and Magnolia Dance Club.
She also belonged to Magnolia Garden Club for many years.
Nean enjoyed fishing, cooking and gardening. She traveled to many foreign countries on hunting and fishing trips with her husband.
Nean was preceded in death by her husband Jimmie Thompson, parents Kelly Mertens and Flossie Mertens, brothers Neuk Mertens and Demp Mertens and a grandson James Brett Thompson.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Fay Day and husband John, three sons Billy Thompson and wife Gaye, Don Thompson and wife Carla, Mark Thompson and wife Tammy, all of Alexandria, a sister Jeanetta Canalas and husband Benny of Monroe, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and long time housekeeper Maxine Hines.
Pallbearers include grandchildren Sam Thompson, Louis Thompson, Taylor Thompson, Johnny Day and great-great grandchildren Brandon Thompson, Austine Vidrine, Mason Vidrine, and Thomas Hauk.
