Mercie Marie Couvillion Carbo

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2013, in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church with Father Dan O' Connor officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park under the direction of John Kramer & Son.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2013, and again on Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Mercie Marie Couvillion Carbo, age 85, of Alexandria passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2013, in Rapides Regional Medical Center.

She is preceded in death by her parents Rose Goudeau and Leroy Paul Couvillion Sr.; two sisters infant Mercedes Couvillion, Ruth Couvillion Bordelon; two brothers Leroy Paul "Buddy" Couvillion Jr., Malcolm J. Couvillion and her husband of 51 years, Bertrand "Bert" L. Carbo Sr.

Marie, a lifelong resident of Alexandria, graduated from Providence Central High School in 1944. She employed at Kress' Department Store, Guaranty Bank, Ed's Auto Parts and was co-owner of South Central Metals. She was involved in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church's altar society and grief committee. She was past president and a member for thirty plus years of CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini's Pink Ladies organization. Marie was an active member of Louisiana College's water aerobics and the Calidum Garden Club. At the time of her death, she was "mayor" of Rachelle Drive. Prior to that she held a fifty year reign as "queen" of Levin St, and was an active member of the "Saturday Nighters".

She is survived by her daughters: Jeanie Carbo Irons and her husband Larry of Pollock, Kathy Carbo Tonore and husband Louis of Baton Rouge, and Renee Carbo MacIlvain and husband Andrew "Bud" of Landsdale, Pennsylvania; her son Bert Carbo Jr. and wife Debi of Lafayette; one brother Frederick Dean Couvillon and wife Lorraine of Shiner, Texas; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Pallbearers honored to serve will be Todd DeFee, Nathan Carbo, Landry Carbo, Louis "Lou" Tonore, Mike Pasquier, Cort Frankie and Tommy Pinion.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made in honor of Mercie Marie Couvillion Carbo to Our Lady of Prompt Succor Capital Campaign at Our Lady of Prompt Succor, Capital Campaign 401 21st Alexandria, LA 71301.
