Martha Jean Metcalf of Tallahassee went to meet her Heavenly Father on November 19, 2017. Martha was born in Taylor County, Georgia to the late James E. and Willie Lou Welch. She was one of eight siblings; Warren Welch (Hazel)-deceased; James Welch (Dorothy)-deceased; Donald Welch-deceased (Gloria & Richard Conway); Gordon Welch (Audrey); Mary Gibbs (John); Brenda Harris (Cal) all of Thomaston, GA; and Irma Jennings (Harry) of Tallahassee, FL.

On September 11, 1956 Martha married Charles Benjamin Metcalf, Jr. in Panacea, FL. They moved to Tallahassee where Martha worked for the telephone company and with the State of Florida for many years. She left public employment in 1970 and was office manager for Charles B. Metcalf, Jr. Tile Company until their retirement. Martha was a dedicated homemaker who loved to cook. Martha was very active in church; always lending a hand wherever needed. Her greatest joy (and the joy of others) was singing and she had a beautiful voice. Many times she sang specials at church and other churches invited her to visit and sing.

Martha and Charles are blessed with two children, Kay Whipple (Tim) and Ken Metcalf; four grandsons, Ben, Adam, Jacob and Caleb; and four great grandchildren, Drake, Katelyn, Mason and Ansley; a host of nieces and nephews, and church family members.

The family would like to recognize her loving caregivers who have made her last days on earth comforting for all; Donna Styron and Ruby Huntley. Many times she and Charles have said "don't know what we'd do without Donna and Ms. Ruby"; Yvonne Parker, Victoria Adams, and special friend Wanita VanMunster who all contributed greatly to her care. Love to her sister and brother-in-law, Irma and Harry who spent many nights and days by her side. Thank you to Bro. B.B. Barwick for continued visits, prayer, and support; and to Big Bend Hospice who provided support and care.

Martha will be remembered as being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother (Nan), meticulous homemaker, wonderful cook, beautiful singer who loved to share the gospel, and many other attributes.
