Shelvey Raker Calhoun, 77, passed away on June 10, 2014, at the Hospice House. She was born in Fitzgerald, Georgia on January 15, 1937. Her parents were Della and Rufus Griffin. She was married to Ruel Willard Raker, Sr. until his untimely death and then married Charles "Bully" Calhoun. She lived in Woodville and Crawfordville most of her life.
She is survived by her brother Jim (Jeanne) Griffin, her sisters, Susie (John) Alday and Delores Robertson, her three daughters – Karen Shivers, Kim Critten and Pam Raker (Billy) Mills. Her sons Kenny Connell and Ruel Willard (Jennifer) Raker, Jr. Her grandchildren – Robert "Kyle" Allbritton (Pam), Jessica Critten (Kim), Elizabeth Miller (Karen), Kelli and Natalie Connell (Kenny), Crystal Woods and Wil Raker (Billy), and five (5) great-grandchildren. Shelvey was predeceased by her parents - Della and Rufus Griffin, her sister Madeline Whaley and her husbands Ruel Willard Raker, Sr. and Charles "Bully" Calhoun.?Special appreciation is given to her caregivers – Heidi Franklin, Lynn Vickers, Patty Dixon, Ed Lyon and Regina Compton from the Wakulla/Franklin Team of Big Bend Hospice and all of her caregivers at the Hospice House. A very special thank you to her daughter and son-in-law, Billy and Pam Raker Mills and her daughter, Karen Shivers.

The funeral took place at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2014, at Bevis Funeral Home, Harvey-Young Chapel, Crawfordville, Florida. The family received friends one hour before the service. Following the service, she was be buried at the White Church in Woodville.?In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, Florida 32308.?David Conn and Amber Miller at Bevis Funeral Home, Harvey-Young Chapel in Crawfordville assisted the family with their arrangements.
