Chip Gayheart

Chip Gayheart, 93, of Liberty Hill Road, Chillicothe, Ohio, died at 10:55 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at the V.A. Medical Center, Chillicothe, Ohio.

He was born Oct. 28, 1920, in McDowell, Ky., the son of the late Lum Gayheart and Myra (Moore) Gayheart. On Aug. 16, 1947, Chip was united in marriage to Katherine (Warrens) Gayheart who preceded him in death on March 10, 2007.

Surviving are three sons, Roger Gayheart of Wellington, Ohio, Gary Gayheart and wife Kim of Nova, Ohio, Timothy Gayheart and wife Laura of Chillicothe, Ohio; two daughters, Sue Skaggs and husband Roy of Jeffersonville, Ohio, Vanessa Sipes of Wellington, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; sisters Ruby Osborn of Waverly, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Chip was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two sons, Wendell and Jeffery Lum Gayheart; granddaughter, Jessie Ann Gayheart; six brothers, Leonard, Roy, Frank, Taylor, Henry, and Fred Gayheart; and two sisters, Joy Huff and Susie Knott.

He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, and a retired machine operator for Rockwell International.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 3 at the Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly with pastor Densil Wright officiating. Burial was at Gayheart Cemetery.
