NORWALK — Harry B. Rowland Jr., 91, of Rochester, died late Friday evening April 25, 2014, at Fisher Titus Medical Center. He was born in New Brunswick, N.J., son of the late Harry B. Sr. and Irena Turney (nee Bigelow) Rowland. Harry lived most of his life in New London and Rochester and was a 1941 graduate of New London High School. Following graduation, Harry joined the United States Army and proudly served as a member of the 11th Airborne 28th Glider division.
Harry was a truck driver as well as a farmer and owned his own trucking business. He was a member of the Ruritan, a founding member of the Rochester Fire Department, a 60-year member of the Masonic Lodge, and was the Lorain Landmark director for 20 years. Harry enjoyed working on his farm, traveling, and woodworking. He also enjoyed the mini-reunions with his Army buddies.
Harry is survived by his children, Gary (Jane) Rowland of Wellington, Judy (Ronald) Pickworth of LaGrange, Frank Rowland, and Robert (Robin) Rowland both of Wellington; and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, King B. Rowland of New London and James Rowland of Indianapolis, Ind. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Gladys (nee Mohrman) Rowland; and a great-grandchild.
Services were held Wednesday at Eastman Funeral Home with pastor Tina Siroki officiating. Burial was at Rochester Center Cemetery.
