Robert E. Stannard, 94, of Wellington, died Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the Wesleyan Village in Elyria.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Aug. 16, 1918, to the late J. Ellis and Miriam (nee Newell) Stannard, Bob graduated from Boys High School in Brooklyn and New York University.
Robert proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in radar installation.
He played the saxophone at the Radio Chicago Orchestra under Alvino Rey.
Robert moved to Wellington in 1945. He was part owner of Wellington Implement and founder of the heating and air conditioning division that later became Wellington Indoor Comfort. He retired in 1983.
He was a former treasurer of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society and a former member of both the Wellington Kiwanis Club and the Wellington Eagles.
His hobbies included model railroading, boating, fishing, and traveling with his R.V.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Lettie (nee Ochampaugh); children William (Teresa) Stannard of Wellington and Linda (Robert) Lakemacher of Powell; grandchildren Thomas (Carrie) Stannard and Diane (Jeff) Hook of Wellington; and great-grandchildren Jillian and Katie Stannard and Scotty and Max Hook.
Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Margery (nee Young) Stannard in 1986; and a brother, Dr. J. Newell Stannard.
A private graveside service will be held Thursday at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington. Arrangements were handled by Norton-Eastman Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the Stannard family suggests donations to Well-Help, 127 Park Place, Wellington, OH 44090.
