Nora Jeanette Harwood, 89, of Rochester, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at the Elms in Wellington.
She was born Oct. 10, 1923, in Rochester Township, daughter of the late Jesse and Edith (Storrow) Knapp.
Nora was a lifelong resident of Rochester. She was a 1941 graduate of Brighton High School.
She had worked at the former C.E. Ward Co. in New London and then at Oberlin Hospital, where she was the head of the housekeeping department, and retired from the Gilford Instrument Co. in Oberlin.
Nora and her husband, Paul, were members of the Holiday Hobos Camping Club. She was also a member of the Rochester Historical Society and a lifelong member of the Rochester United Methodist Church. Nora was very active in the Rochester Fourth of July celebrations, and with the Rochester Fire Department Flares.
She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Harwood, whom she married Dec. 7, 1943; children Richard (Barb) Harwood of Laurelville, Ohio, Dennis (Patti) Harwood of Spring Hill, Tenn., and Pam (Jim) Mencl of Rochester; grandchildren Jennifer Kuck, David, Gregory and Rachel Harwood, Nick and Allison Mencl, and Chelle Ruggles; great-grandchildren Anna, Amelia, Jarrett, and Sebastian; and her sister, Rhea Cowie.
She was preceded in death by brothers Wade and Carl Knapp; and her sister, Ruth Mourton.
Services were held Friday, Jan. 25 at Eastman Funeral Home in New London with pastor Tina Siroki officiating.
Burial was at the Rochester Cemetery, Griggs Road.
