Jean Hartman, 89, of Wellington, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013, surrounded by family and holding hands with her husband at the Elms Retirement Village in Wellington.
A daughter of the late Roy Curtis and Adah (nee Sprinkle) Whitcomb, Jean was born in Wellington on Feb. 26, 1924.
She was a 1942 graduate of Sullivan High School.
Jean spent many years volunteering at the hospital. She then began working as a medical records librarian for the Wellington Hospital. Jean was a member of the Pittsfield Community Church, the Pythian Sisters, and Town and Country.
Her hobbies included quilting, sewing, and cake decorating. She often had tea parties with friends at nursing facilities. Jean also treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her loving husband of 71 years, Ernest; children Ernest Harold (Mary Ann) Hartman of Huntington, Barney Ray (Linda J.) Hartman of Pittsfield, Mary Maxine (Layton) Meininger of Ashland, James Curtis (Linda M.) Hartman of Wellington, and Stuart Eugene (Vicki) Hartman of Oberlin; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by siblings Florence Finkel, Margaret Heister, Emily May, June Thompson, and Carl "Bud" Whitcomb.
Services were held June 15 at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, Wellington, with Fr. James Reymann and chaplain Roger Loomis officiating.
Burial was at Sullivan Southview Cemetery.
