Cynthia Sauer Obrien-Luzzi

Cynthia Sauer Obrien-Luzzi, devoted wife and best friend of Louis J. Luzzi, passed away in North Collier Hospital in Naples, FL, on Saturday, August 9, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 11, 1947, Cindy was the daughter of the late Robert Charles and Mary (Finster) Sauer. She was a lifelong resident of Westerly, R.I.
She was a graduate of Immaculate Conception School and Westerly High School and attended Mitchell College. Cindy was employed by Lenihan Realty and self-employed at the Obrien-Luzzi Bookkeeping Service. She worked many years as the bookkeeper for the Weekapaug Golf Club, retiring in 2004.
Cindy was a member for over 40 years of the Westerly Republican Town Committee, served on the Westerly Zoning Board for thirteen plus years and also served on many Boards and Commissions for Westerly, the town she loved so much. She was one of the initial organizers of the Paul Trombino Foundation along with Paul's father Gene Trombino. She was a past board member of the Warm Shelter and also a member of the board of incorporators for both the Westerly Hospital and The Memorial and Library Association.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Michael Obrien and her grandson, Ethan, of Florence, AL. She also leaves three sisters, Dorothia Burgess and her husband, Gary of Mystic, CT, Mary Sharman and her husband, Michael of Livonia, NY, and Belinda Sauer of Salem, OR, three stepdaughters, Karen Moser of Preston, CT, Terri Berno of Westerly, and Lynn Ronne of Westerly, also several nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Pius Church, Elm St., Westerly, R.I., on Monday, August 18, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Sebastian Cemetery.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Westerly YMCA, 95 High St., Westerly, R.I. 02891, to be used for their summer camp for disadvantaged youths.
