Dorothy L. Headley, 91, of Groton passed away on Sunday, March 16. Dot was a kind and unassuming woman with a big heart who left behind beautiful memories for all who knew her. She was the wife of the late Samuel B. Headley Jr. She was a devoted mother to her three children, Samuel Headley (Elaine) of Ashaway, Robert Headley (Annette) of Pawcatuck, and Norma Ramaccia (Steven) of Groton and the proud and loving grandmother of, Josh, Jenifer, David, Ben, Robert, Katie and Sarah. She had a special soft spot for her two great-grandchildren, Anna and Will who called her "Great" for short. She also leaves behind her brother, Albert Hartunian of Stonington. She was predeceased by her sister, Ruth Adams.
A lifelong resident of Groton, Dot worked for the Groton School Department's lunch program at Pleasant Valley School before retiring in 1998 and enjoyed spending many summer days at Eastern Point Beach. She volunteered for many years as a religious education teacher at United Methodist Church, New London. She was a member of the Groton Senior Center and the Christ United Methodist Church in Groton.
A funeral service will be held on Friday morning at 10 a.m. at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St, Groton. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 5 until 7 p.m. Interment will be in Colonel Ledyard Cemetery.
