Gordon A. ""Chappy"" Chapman

Gordon A. "Chappy" Chapman, 90, of Groton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 19, 2013 surrounded by his family and friends. He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 63 years, Dorothy F. (Vincent) Chapman.

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Tracey and Elizabeth A. Chapman. Gordon attended local schools and was a graduate of Newport High School.
He was employed as a Lead Shift Supervisor in the X-ray Dept. at E.B. General Dynamics, retiring in 1990 after 26 years. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII, serving in the China/Burma/India Campaign, a life member of the Pawcatuck VFW Post 1265, a member of the American Legion and the Masons. Gordon was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed traveling around New England.

Surviving, he leaves his daughter, Donna L. Hartline and her husband Kenneth, of Pawcatuck; five grandchildren, Clifford and Tammy (Robinson) Hillegeist, both of California, Duane Hartline of Norwich, and Angele Williams and Jaclyn Hartline, both of Westerly; and eight great grandchildren.

A visiting hour will be held on Tuesday from 11am-12 noon in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at 12pm in the funeral home. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the VFW Post 1265 of Pawcatuck, CT, in Gordon's memory.
