Lawrence A. Clay, Jr., 84, of Westerly, passed away at South Bay Manor in Wakefield, on Wednesday, June 18, 2014.
Born in Westerly, he was a son of the late Lawrence, Sr. and Charlotte Clay.
Larry worked as a General Foreman in the Radiology Dept. for Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics until his retirement. A US Army
Veteran, he was also a member of the Westerly Lodge of Elks, the Amancio Falcone Gaccione VFW
Post #8955, the Calabrese Society, and the North End Social Club. In addition, he was a member of RIMS and the Weekapaug Surfcasters where he was a founding member. Larry was an avid fisherman and woodworker.
He leaves behind four children, Michael and his wife Sue of Destrahan, LA; Alan and his wife Claire of Charlestown; Donald and his wife Jan of Uraguay; and Leanne Huhn and her husband David of Monmouth, OR. He will also be dearly missed by his beloved companion, Doris Sylvia of Westerly; a sister, Barbara Winkler of Groton; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Jaclyn, Matthew, Jason, Christopher and Amanda Clay and Amelia Huhn; and several nieces and nephews. Larry was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Ceplenski) Clay.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, from 4-7 p.m., at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly, on Monday, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at River Bend Cemetery, Westerly.
