Ann McSweeny Obituary

Ann G. McSweeny, 83, of Stonington, Connecticut and formerly of Williamstown, Massachusetts, died August 2, 2013 at home in the company of family and friends. She was the beloved wife of Francis E. McSweeny, whom she married June 14, 1952.
Born in Dalton, Massachusetts November 8, 1929, Mrs. McSweeny was the only child of the late Charles J. "Jim" and Margaret F. (Leamy) Griffin, and lived most of her life in the Berkshires. She graduated from Dalton High School and the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York.
Mrs. McSweeny was a communicant of St. Patrick Parish in Mystic, Connecticut and St. Raphael Parish in Williamstown. She was a long-time volunteer for the Recording for the Blind and the Women's Exchange in Williamstown, and helped with the costuming of a number of musicals at Mount Greylock Regional High School. She worked for several years at the Williamstown Public Library.
Mrs. McSweeny loved to read, garden, and travel; she had a great interest in American history; and she had a special fondness for cats.
Besides her husband, Mrs. McSweeny is survived by her children: Fran, with whom she made her home; Peggy Murphy of Shrub Oak, New York; Charlie and his wife Cheryl of Medway, Massachusetts; Joe, of Taipei, Taiwan; and Mary Ann of Medway, Massachusetts. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Jim and Sean McSweeny, Laura and Stephen Murphy, Jonathan and Patrick Foley, and Maureen, Joe, and Owen McSweeny. In addition, she is survived by her loving caregivers Beverly Howard and Amy Wilson.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Ann McSweeny will be celebrated Thursday August 8, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Church, Williamstown. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. McSweeny's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, TN in care of FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPEL, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA 01247.
