VENICE, Fla. - David Lee Bixler, 75, of Venice, Fla., formerly of Westerly, R.I., passed away Friday, March 21, 2014. Mr. Bixler served his country in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman and medic. He was passionate about trees, owning Bixler's S. County Tree Experts in Westerly for 40 years. He was a gourmet cook, who also loved to write and share stories at the Writer's Group in Venice.

Preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Esther Bixler, David is survived by Paulette, his loving wife of 47 years; children, Katherine Banks, of Cranston, R.I., Emily Comeau and her husband, Drew, of Middletown, Conn., Jonathan Bixler of Kissimmee, Fla., and Nathan Bixler, of Folsom, Calif.; grandchildren, Amber, Ashley, Rachel, Sam, Molly, Chloe, and Oliver, brother Jack Bixler and his wife, Kathi, of Pawley's Island, S.C.; and sister, Mary Lou Boyer, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 9, at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Church in Kingston, R.I., and burial will follow at the VA Memorial Cemetery in Exeter. To send condolences, please visit www.farleyfuneralhome.com.
