Edith Hargreaves Obituary

Edith C. Hargreaves, of Enfield, entered into eternal rest, at the age of 89, on Tuesday (August 20, 2013) at St. Francis Hospital & Medical Ctr. Edith was the widow of John H. Hargreaves. She was born on July 2, 1924 in Lawrence, MA, daughter of the late Ernest and Edith Callard. Edith was a graduate of Johnson High School, N. Andover, MA, and then served in the Naval Reserve during WW II. Edith had resided in N. Andover, MA for 29 years, Pawcatuck, CT for 40 years and in Enfield for over 20 years.
A loving and dedicated wife, mother, grand and great grandmother, she devoted her life to caring for her family, home and gardens. Edith was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years serving as organist for many chapters. She was grand organist for OES Grand Chapter many times and organist for the state organization for three times.
Edith is survived by her two children: Gary Hargreaves and his wife Eileen of Enfield, and Cynthia Celico and her husband Eugene of Westerly, RI, her cherished grandchildren; Lindsay Frank and her husband Michael, Graham Hargreaves, Paul Celico, Andrew Celico and Taylor Celico and 3 great grandchildren; Aydyn Celico, Piper Celico and Deborah Celico, also a niece; Carol Jackson and her husband Richard, and a nephew; Ernest Callard and his wife Barbara. She was also predeceased by a brother; Ernest Callard, Jr and a sister; Florence Glendinning.
The family expresses their gratitude to the staff at the Enfield Day Center who enabled Edith to remain at home with her family for many years. It was there that she discovered her artistic talents. For the last year and a half she was well-cared for by the staff at Chestnut Point in East Windsor.
Friends may gather with her family during calling hours on Thursday (Aug. 22, 2013) from 4 to 7 p.m. at 6:45 p.m. there will be a service by the Order of the Eastern Star followed by the Funeral Service at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd., Enfield, CT. Interment will take place on Friday (Aug. 23, 2013) at 11:00 a.m. in the First Hopkinton Cemetery, Ashaway, RI. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Enfield Day Center 3 Beech Rd.
