Jerry I. Duhamel Sr., 80, of Post Road, Charlestown, died on July 9, 2013, at his home.

Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Edward C. and Harriet (Barnes) Duhamel. Mr. Duhamel established the well-known Hitching Post Restaurant in 1950 on Post Road in Charlestown.
Jerry was an active member of many Masonic organizations throughout his long life. He was past master of the Franklin Lodge No. 20 in Westerly, Scottish Rites and York Rite of Masons, Shriners and the Royal Order of the Jesters.
Mr. Duhamel was a member of the First Baptist Church of Charlestown at Quonochontaug. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Jerry will be sadly missed by his two children; Jerry I. Duhamel Jr., and Tammy L. McLellan, both of Charlestown. He was the loving grandfather of Jerry I. Duhamel III, of Mansfield, Mass.; Tabitha Berard, of Winter Garden, Fla.; and Tiffany McLellan, of Charlestown. He also leaves his former wife, Helen Downs, of Lakeside, Calif. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert Duhamel, Kenneth Duhamel, Clifford "Kip" Duhamel and his twin brother, Carlin Duhamel.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with a calling hour preceding the service from 10-11 a.m. Burial will be private.
