Robert N. Clarke, 85, of Commodore Perry Highway, Wakefield, R.I., died peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at his home. He was the beloved husband of Jean (Moller) Clarke.
Born in South Kingstown, R.I., on July 14, 1928, he was the son of the late Bertram and Thelma (Brown) Clarke.
Bob graduated from Westerly High School and attended the University of Hartford, CT.
Mr. Clarke served his county proudly during World War II and Korea. He was a member of the VFW Post #8955 in Westerly.
Bob retired in 1988 from Electric Boat in Groton, CT, after 33 years, where he was a Supervisor in Quality Assurance Engineering. He also served on the Charlestown Police Department in the 1950's and 1960's.
He was Past Master of the Charity Lodge # 23 in Kenyon, R.I. He was a member of Narragansett Commandery, the Hope Chapter OES, Past Patron, Franklin Masonic Lodge in Westerly and the Palestine Temple-Shrine. He was a life member of the Westerly Yacht Club.
In his retirement he enjoyed golfing, woodworking, Red Sox and the Patriots and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Besides his loving wife of 64 years, he will be sadly missed by his children, Donna McIntire of Carolina, R.I., Dennis R. Clarke of North Stonington, CT, Robert N. Clarke, III of Qingdao, China, William A. Clarke of Charlestown, R.I., and Pamela Miller of Carolina, R.I. He was the loving grandfather of 14 and great grandfather of 15.
The Clarke family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, from 4 p.m.-7 p.m., at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly, R.I. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at 11 a.m., at the Link Family Cemetery, Lewiston Ave., Richmond, R.I.
