Ward McDarby, Jr. of Westerly, R.I., passed away on July 19, 2014. Ward was the son of Ward Sr. and Grace McDarby of Hudson, New York. He was married almost 70 years to his wife, Anne McDarby.

His family also includes two children, Ward McDarby, III and Margaret Burdick; three grandchildren, Tom Haggerty (married to Jennifer Silva Haggerty), John Haggerty (married to Patricia Newbold Haggerty), and Daniel Burdick; and four great granddaughters and one great grandson. Ward also leaves a sister, Arleen Brown of Hudson, NY, and a brother, Raymond McDarby of Hudson, NY, and he was predeceased by three brothers, Donald, Harold (Halley), and Clifford of Hudson, NY.
Ward was a veteran of the US Navy, having fought in World War II. He was awarded the American Defense Ribbon Good Conduct medal with three stars, Asiatic Pacific medal with one star, and the Victory medal for invasion of Guadalcanal. Ward worked at several locations in Westerly throughout his life, including John R. Ford, A. A. Morrone's, Pat's Auto Center, and The Westerly Sun.
There will be no visiting hours or services, and the family requests that no flowers be sent. Donations to the Westerly Animal Shelter and Beacon Hospice of RI in honor of Mr. McDarby are welcome.
