Andrew W. Rines, 79, beloved husband for 53 years of Darla (Jewett) Rines, of William Street, Pawcatuck, passed away at The Westerly Hospital on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012.
Born in Bath, Maine, he was the son of the late Chester and Marion Rines.
Andrew was employed as the Assistant Superintendent of the Stonington Public School Department. He was a communicant of St. Michael Church, a member of the Stonington Finance Board and the Stonington Democratic Town Committee. A sports fan and diehard Red Sox Fan, he was very active in youth sports and community affairs. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his four children, Lisa Ploof of Rochester, N.Y., Andrea Yates of Warrington, Pa., David Rines of Blue Ash, Ohio and Stephen Rines of Burlington, Mass. He will also be sadly missed by his seven grandchildren, David, Sara, Alyssa, Jacob, Andrew, Kaitlyn and Matthew. Andrew was predeceased by a sister, Marguerite Sonia.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Funeral Liturgy will be held in St. Mary Church, 95 Main St., Stonington on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in River Bend Cemetery, Westerly.
