Donald Coes Jamieson, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 9 at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Boston on Sept. 27, 1925, son of Marjory Norton and Bertrand S. Jamieson. The family relocated to Stonington Village in 1928, where he and his brother Norton attended the Borough School. They moved to Noank, where he attended the Noank School and graduated from Fitch High School. He attended Harvard University, joining the Navy where he served on a mine sweeper in the South Pacific.
Don attended the Rhode Island School of Design and graduated from the University of Connecticut, where he also received a Master's degree in Elizabethan Studies. He was employed as a sales engineer with Arwood Corporation.
He married Eleanor Tatro on Aug. 23, 1952 at Saint Patrick's Church and they were soon to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Adrienne Jamieson and her husband, Patrick Chamorel of Washington, D.C. and Paris, France, and Shelley Sinclair and her husband Robert Sinclair of Leonia, N.J. He was predeceased by his brother, Norton Jamieson of Brookline, Mass.
He served as Treasurer of the Mystic Community Center and as finance officer of the Stonington Commission on Aging. Don was known for his quick wit and intelligence. He was an avid reader and a life-long student of history and Shakespeare, as well as a loyal Red Sox fan and jazz aficionado.
A Mass of Remembrance will be held at noon on Thursday, Aug. 16 at the Chapel of Our Lady of the Assumption at Saint Edmund's on Enders Island in Mystic.
