Donald "Jeff" Walsh, 55, of Suffield, Conn., son of Donald and Lesley (Ferrar) Walsh and beloved husband of Amanda B. Walsh, died suddenly at his home on April 27, 2012.
Along with his wife, Amanda, of 28 years, he is survived by his daughter, Becca, and son, Jeffrey "Ben", all of Suffield, Conn. He also leaves his beloved sister, Deborah Aber, and her husband, Jim, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and brother, Richard Walsh, of Winsted, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Samuel and Mary Brown, of Westerly, R.I., and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jeff grew up in Simsbury, Conn., and Westerly, R.I., and was a graduate of Westerly High School with the Class of 1975. Jeff was an avid fisherman, dedicated father, hard worker and a loyal friend. No one reaped the benefit of this devotion more than his best friend - his dog, Luke. Luke was with him right to the end and stayed by his side until his family arrived.
His hobbies were a big part of his life from early days on his sailboat to many hours of his adult life spent in the waters of Long Island Sound fishing for striped bass. He was a hard worker, employed for over 15 years at Northeast Grounds Management in East Springfield, Mass. He got an early start at all of this hard work at the age of 8 by taking apart his mother's car on the garage floor. No one knew more about cars and his career included owning his own auto body shop and maintaining the large fleet of grounds maintenance machinery at Northeast Grounds.
His family's days will be a little less bright without his familiar belly laugh, and both his grumpy and happy moments will be sorely missed.
His family will receive friends on Saturday, May 5, 2012, from 11 to 1 p.m., at the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St., (Rt. 159) Suffield. A celebration of life service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private at the request of his family.
To honor Jeff's dedication to his dog, memorial donations can be made in lieu of flowers to the ASPCA, 520 8th Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10018 and or Westerly Animal Shelter, Larry Hirsch Lane, Westerly, R.I., 02891.
