Earl Whitford Obituary

Earl W. Whitford Jr., 77, of Mystic, husband of Gladys (Donahue) Whitford, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2012.
Born in Westerly, he was the son of the late Earl and Myra (Young) Whitford and lived in Mystic for the past few years, previously residing in Pawcatuck.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran.
Earl was loved by all who came in contact with him and could brighten any room with his smile, charm, wit and sense of humor. He had a heart of gold and went out of his way to help anyone with even the smallest of problems. When you thought of a self-made man you thought of Earl.
He was accepted to Brown University but had to pass because of financial situations, but that didn't stop him from learning something new every day. He was extremely smart and was a hard-working man.
In his early 20's, he had accomplished several apprenticeships. He worked for the Cottrell Company and eventually went on to be a founding member of Posi-Seal up until his retirement in 1990. During his retirement, he continued to keep busy, always doing some kind of project. He had a strong love for his family and will be deeply missed.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Earl W. Whitford III of Mystic; a brother, Lawrence Whitford of Ledyard; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Lois Brown, Evelyn Kelley and Virginia Lee.
Funeral services and burial are private.
