Helen A. (Babcock) Meek, 83, of St. Clare Way, Misquamicut, passed away at The Westerly Hospital on Monday, Aug. 27, 2012. She was the companion of the late Charles F. Allen.
Born in Sterling, Conn., she was the daughter of the late George and Esther Babcock.
Helen worked as an Avon sales representative for close to 50 years. She was a longtime member of Grace Methodist Church, a member of the Bradford Social Club and a lifetime honorary member of the Westerly Yacht Club. Helen played the piano and keyboard for the Ray Holland Trio and also played and sang for many different local organizations. She enjoyed both cooking and karaoke and was known for her high-heeled shoes.
Surviving, she leaves her sons, Bradley J. Meek and wife, Lois, of Ashaway, and Charles D. Meek Jr. and wife, Monika, of S.C.; her daughters, Brenda J. Perry and husband, Andy, of Pawcatuck, Charlene D. Rosa and husband, John, of Charlestown, and Katherine A. Bears, of Everett, Mass.; as well as a brother, George Babcock and his wife, Jean, of Charlestown. Helen is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Mildred Greer.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A funeral service will take place in Grace Methodist Church, 10 Park Ave., Westerly, on Friday at 11 a.m. There is no procession to the church from the funeral home. Burial will follow in First Hopkinton Cemetery, Hopkinton.
