Joan K. Leiper of Newark, VT, passed away peacefully with her son Thomas, his wife Sylvie and caregivers at her side on April 30th 2014, at The Newport Health Care Center after a 4 year battle with Dementia / Alzheimer disease. Joan was born in New York the daughter of John F Gannon and Rose (Mackey) Gannon.

After graduating from Lenox Hill Hospital School of Nursing, with a Nursing Degree, she went on with a 50 year career in Nursing and retired with a Master's degree in Nursing Administration. She held a Nursing license in Connecticut, California, New York and Rhode Island.
Joan loved to travel and spend time on the beaches of Westerly, R.I. and she shared a condo in Orlando Fla with her son Thomas. She loved to read and spend time in Vermont and the lakes of Maine and New Hampshire.
She was pre-deceased by a baby boy, girl, both parents and brother John Gannon. She is survived by four sons, George G. Leiper, Jr. and wife Tina, John H. Leiper, Thomas J. Leiper III and wife Sylvie, Patrick J. Leiper, 3 grandchildren Thomas J. Leiper IV, Grant Leiper and Karen Leiper. 3 sisters, Rosemary Brulotte, Kathy Ruffino and Husband John, and Peggy Gannon.
There were no calling hours. A mass in her honor was held on May 11th 2014, in Newport, VT. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her honor to Dementia / Alzheimer organization of their choice. Curtis –Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Homes in charge of arrangements for cremation.
