Joseph M. Gomes, 52, died unexpectedly at his home in Hopkinton on July 28, 2012.

Born in Westerly in 1960, Joseph was a son of the late Margaret and Joseph A. Gomes.
He was a lifelong resident of southern Rhode Island, graduating from Westerly High School in 1978 and receiving a certificate from Johnson and Wales University in 1999.
Joe was a licensed Rhode Island real estate agent and had been employed by A/Z Corporation in Ledyard, Conn., since 1999. He was an avid golfer, gardener and sports fisherman. He built his own home in Hopkinton and lived there for over 20 years with his wife, Donna Gomes. Joe was a loving brother and a devoted husband and neighbor and will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his companion, Donna Lemieux; a brother, Thomas J. Gomes; a sister, Celia Gomes McGillivray; and seven nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a sister, Paula Gomes Craft.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at noon in Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
