Marlene J. (McQuaide) Robar, 72, of Westerly, died peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at The Clipper Home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert H. Robar Jr.
Born in Westerly on Feb. 8, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Helen (Saunders) McQuaide.
Marlene had been a driver for the Wood River Health Services Westerly Adult Services.
Marlene was a volunteer in the nursery at The Westerly Hospital for several years and was a member and Deacon of the Dunn's Corner's Community Church Presbyterian in Westerly.
She will be remembered for her lifetime of helping others and for the way she gracefully dealt with the pains and trials associated with her rare disease.
Marlene enjoyed her grandchildren, spending time with family and friends, traveling, camping and was an avid reader. She also loved watching and following UConn Women's Basketball.
She will be sadly missed by her children, Gary Robar and his wife, Karen, of Richmond, Jodi Didone and her husband, James, of Westerly, Timothy Robar and his wife, Karen, of Westerly and Patricia Helie and her husband, Brian, of Westerly. She was the loving grandmother of Travis, Kailyn, Corey, Jamielynn, Christopher, Madison, James, Elizabeth and Ella; and great-grandmother of Lexie. She was the sister of James McQuaide of Florida, Jane Frink of Westerly, Elizabeth Petrowski of Westerly and Helen Lewis of Ashaway. She was predeceased by two sons.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Dunn's Corners Community Presbyterian Church, 221 Post Road, Westerly. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. Burial will be in River Bend Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Marlene's memory may be made to the Dunn's Corners Community Church Presbyterian, 221 Post Road, Westerly, RI 02891 or Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
