Michelle J. (Gilchrist) Runde, 68, of Skunk Hill Road, Hope Valley, R.I., died

Monday, May 14, 2012, at The Westerly Hospital. She was the loving wife of
William E. Runde. She was born Dec. 15, 1943 in Westerly, R.I., a daughter of the late Joseph
and Reba (Wright) Gilchrist. After graduation, She became a beautician, operated
the family grocery store for three years and had three children, continued
education by taking various courses in accounting, sign language, Spanish, business
machines and data processing. Michelle graduated from Johnson & Wales University
and later was a sales clerk for Fleming's Department Store, accounts payable clerk for the Westerly
School Department, Xray transcriptionist for South County Hospital for 6½ years and for the R.I.
Department of Human Services for 5½ years. She met a wonderful man, Bill Runde, a retired Navy Senior
Chief Submariner, in June 1988 and they married in December 1989 on her birthday.
She owned a lingerie business for 12 years and owned and operated Que Sera Ceramics
for the past six years. Michelle traveled to seven foreign countries and 44 states with six more states
on the agenda. She belonged to and held office in various religious, civic and political organizations
on the state and local level. Michelle volunteered and donated time to a shelter for
battered women, soup kitchen, food bank and Seniors Helping Others, also going to home bound and
giving hair cuts, teaching fourth- and sixth-grade catechism, singing in church
choir and continuing a career in entertainment organizing and participating in shows for various organizations.
Besides her loving husband, she will be sadly missed by her three children,
Brock Cozzolino, of Bryant, Maine, Darcy Lo- Priore, of Summerfield, Fla., and Blythe Tetlow, of West
Kingston, R.I.; her six grandchildren, one greatgranddaughter and her sister
Denise Murray, of Hope Valley. Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral home
service Saturday at 3 p.m. in the S.R. Avery Funeral Home 3ABank Street, Hope Valley.
