Richard Edwin "Dick" Webb, age 81, of Westminster Street, Westerly, died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at the Westerly Health Center. He was the loving husband of Julia M. (Ohan) Webb, his wife of 58 years.
Born Jan. 28, 1931, in Providence, R.I., he was the son of the late William and Madeleine (Waite) Webb.
He was employed by the People's Saving Bank for 34 years and The Washington Trust Company for 13 years; member of the Central Baptist Church and served as a trustee for 32 years; past president of the Credit Executives of Southeast; Mortgage Bankers of America; Mortgage Bankers Association; past foreman and member for over 50 years of the Alert Hook and Ladder Company of the Westerly Fire Department; member of Franklin Masonic Lodge #20 F.&A.M.; Narragansett Commandery #27 Knights Templar; Union Chapter #7, R.A.M. Rhode Island Shriners AAONMS of Cranston, R.I.; founder and director of Elmwood Foundation of Providence, R.I.; trustee of River Bend Cemetery; member and past president Baptist Home of R.I.; past director and president of Westerly/Pawcatuck Chamber of Commerce; alumni of URI and Northwestern University; incorporator of The Westerly Hospital and Westerly Library; past director and president of the Westerly Adult Day Services, past director of the Westerly/Pawcatuck YMCA; past director of United Fund of Southern R.I.; past president of the Westerly Lions Club; and a recipient of the Melvin-Jones Fellow Humanitian Award. He served in the USMC during the Korean War.
Besides his loving wife, he will be sadly missed by his daughter, Robin Webb Lombardo, and her husband, Joseph D., of Hope Valley; his grandson, Jared W. Lombardo, and his fiancée, Marissa L. Hynoski, of New Haven, Conn.; his sister, Shirley D. Marz, of Norfolk, Va.; his brother, William B. Webb Jr., of Exton, Pa.; and his much loved dog, Dori.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Central Baptist Church, Elm Street, Westerly. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Burial will be private.
