Ronald A. Ross, 77, of Stonington, beloved husband for 57 years of Myrna Ross, passed away at The Westerly Hospital on Sunday, Sept.16, 2012, after a courageous battle with ALS.
Born in Syracuse, N.Y., he was the son of the late Albert and Violet Ross.
Ron worked as a senior designer in piping at E.B. Division of General Dynamics for many years. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was an avid boater and lifetime member of the W.Y.C. He also contributed as a member in the Masonic Coastal Lodge #57 in Stonington, the Groton B.P.O.E., the Shriners International, the American Legion, U.S. Power Squadron and the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society. Most important to Ron was to be surrounded by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he will be sadly missed by his three daughters, Cynthia Shortman and her husband, Arthur, and Sandy Planchon, all of Pawcatuck, and Robin Gasparino and her husband, Ted, of Griswold, Conn., as well as seven grandchildren, Arthur Shortman, Heather, Kyle and Kevin Planchon, Brittany, Taylor and Allison Gasparino.
The Ross Family would like to thank the Medical Care Unit at The Westerly Hospital for all of their fine care and support during this very difficult time.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Funeral Service will take place in the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. followed by interment in River Bend Cemetery, Westerly. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the ALS Association, Connecticut Chapter, 4 Oxford Rd., Unit D4, Milford, CT 06460, in Ron's memory.
