Ruth V. "Val" (Tough) Provancha, 67, beloved wife of David B. Provancha, of Charles Avenue, Charlestown, passed away at The Westerly Hospital on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012.
Born in Rome, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late James and Virginia Tough.
Val worked as a secretary for Stonington High School for many years and was always supportive of the school's functions. She enjoyed knitting, cross stitching and bowling, and especially liked to go fishing and boating with her husband.
In addition to her husband, she will be sadly missed by her children, Donna Brandelli and her husband, Bob, of Connecticut and California; Todd Schaeffer and Sherri Schaeffer, both of Florida; D'Ann Schaeffer, of Pawcatuck; Mandy Algier and her husband, Scott, of Westerly; and Brian Provancha and his wife, Maria, of Rhode Island.
She also leaves her siblings, Ellen Lay Ockert and her husband, Paul, of North Carolina; Fred Tough, of Connecticut; David Tough, of Bradford; and a sister-in-law, Anita Tough, of Westerly, as well as her grandchildren, Shauna Rittman, Guen Schaeffer, and Vanessa and Jeremy Brainard; and a great-grandchild, Kinsley, and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Funeral service and burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
