Joseph P. Van Den Bossche of Ashaway, R.I., and formerly of Norton, MA, died Feb. 17, 2014, at the age of 80.
He was the son of Emma and Joseph L. Van Den Bossche, Belgian immigrants to Pawtucket. He was predeceased by his brother Raymond and sister Pauline.
He is survived by Sally E. Van Den Bossche, his wife of 51 years, and three children, Linda Barovier and husband Carl of Coventry, R.I., Gregg Van Den Bossche and companion Cara Kenney of Gonic, NH, and Kris Van Den Bossche of Ashaway, and two granddaughters, Hannah and Rachel Barovier.
He spent many years in the advertising and circulation departments of the Pawtucket Times and the Attleboro Sun. He was active in Hopkinton town affairs, having served on the Town Council, Charter Commission, Police Commission and Democratic Town Committee among others. He served in the 103rd field artillery, R.I.N.G., in Germany during the Korean War. He was a Corvette enthusiast and enjoyed drag racing at Charleston Naval Air Station.
The family and friends will hold a commemoration of his life on his birthday March 17th. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Visiting Nurses Services of South County, 14 Woodruff Avenue, Narragansett, R.I. 02882-3467.
