WESTERLY - Anthony J. Fusco, M.D. passed away into eternal life on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at The Westerly Hospital. A pediatrician in Westerly for more than 45 years, Dr. Fusco received his bachelor's degree from Providence College, his master's degree from Fairfield University. He taught high school biology for one year at Hill House High School in New Haven before pursuing his medical degree at The University of Bologna in Italy. He did his medical internship and residency at St. Raphael's Hospital in New Haven. He began his medical practice in Westerly in 1962, taking care of generations of families. Dr. Fusco served as the school physician for the Westerly School Department for many years. In 2008, he was honored by the Dante Society as a Person of the Year as one of "The Boys of Bologna". He also served the Church of St. Clare as a trustee for many years.

Dr. Fusco was born to the late John and Marie Fusco. He was the cherished husband of Elizabeth Jane Fusco and devoted father to his three daughters, Beth and her husband, Michael, of Narragansett, Cate Fusco and Paula Fusco, of Westerly; and his two sons, John Fusco and his wife, Ellen, of Southport, and Jay Fusco and his wife, Jennifer, of Westerly. He leaves behind his loving grandchildren, Rose, Christopher and Clare. He was predeceased by his sisters, Rose Simons, Evelyn and Marie Fusco.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at the Church of St. Clare, Crandall Ave., Misquamicut, on Saturday at 10 a.m. There is no procession to the church from the funeral home.
