Joan Blanchard Gray of Lake Wales, Florida and Weekapaug, Rhode Island, died on, August 9, 2014, in Mystic, CT at the Avalon Health Center. Joan was born in Englewood, NJ on October 18, 1927, and grew up in Pelham Manor, NY. Her parents were George Kinson Blanchard and Beatrice Blanchard. She married William H. Gray on June 23, 1950, who predeceased her in 1991.

Joan is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Gray, of Nantucket, MA. and Ann Gray, of Stonington, CT, her son-in-law, James Royle, her grandson, Daniel Royle and his wife, Areerat and her great granddaughter, Angela Royle. Joan is also survived by her sister, Barbara Blanchard and her husband, Dudley, her brother-in-law, John Gray and his wife, Doris, and two sisters-in-law, Jean Gray and another Joan Gray and many nieces and nephews. Joan is also survived by an extraordinary number of wonderful loyal friends whom she loved and who loved her back.
It was fitting that she died on the weekend of the Gray Cup, a golf tournament named in honor of her husband Bill.
There will be a reception at the Misquamicut Golf Club to honor Joan on Tuesday, August 26, 2014, from 4-6. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bok Tower Foundation in Lake Wales FL, the Westerly Library in Westerly , R.I., or Pine Point School in Stonington, CT.
